there was a certain tech journalist who, having multiple tens of thousands of followers and knowing their tweets will be seen widely, decided to tweet “i agree with sanders the most of all the candidates but the berniebro’s are so HORRIBLE”. said journalist proceeded to freak the fuck out about alleged “berniebros” sending them death/rape threats etc. that this tweet elicited, and then used this as a cudgel against everyone else who might support bernie for not properly policing their online communities and were thus just as horrible as the harrasers. never mind there’s no way you would actually be able to do that because its the fucking internet, and because there’s always a portion of assholes in every online demographic. Best part was when someone did the tweet equivalent of rolling their eyes and making a joke at the journalists expense, the journalist proceeded to become EXTREMELY OFFENDED and post a screencap of the eyeroll tweet with an unredacted twitter handle to their multiple tens of thousands of followers. guess what happened then…
