Matthew 14:22–33 Jesus Walks on the Water

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

In the Gospel of Matthew 14:22–33 we read the story of Jesus walking on the water. Peter, one of his disciples, also walked on the water until he began to sink. This story is more than just a miracle; it is an inspiration for all believers to trust in God’s power and walk on the water with him. In this blog, we will explore the deeper meaning of this story and the steps we can take to experience this great miracle of walking on water with Jesus.

Step 1: Believe in His Presence

The first step to walking on water with Jesus is to believe in his presence. As Peter walked on the water, he noticed the wind and the waves and became afraid. The moment you take your eyes off Jesus, the fear and doubts could flood your heart. But, if you keep your focus on him and believe in his power and ability, you will experience the miraculous.

Step 2: Listen to His Voice

The second step is to listen to his voice. When Peter started to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus promptly responded, stretched out his hand and saved him. Jesus is always there for us, but we need to be willing to listen to his voice. We can do that by reading and meditating on the word of God, praying and seeking his direction in our lives.

Step 3: Step Out in Faith

The third step to walking on water with Jesus is to step out in faith. Peter’s faith enabled him to take that brave step out of the boat and onto the water. We too, need to take that first step of faith, even when we can’t see what’s ahead. It’s that step that leads to the journey of walking on water with Him.

Step 4: Trust Him Even in the Storms

The fourth step is to trust him even in the storms. We will have times of trials and setbacks, but Jesus is always there to carry us through. Even when we falter and start to sink, he is there to extend his hand and lift us up again. When we trust in the power of his name, we can face any storm and come out victorious.

Step 5: Keep Your Eyes on Him

The last step is to keep your eyes on him at all times. As soon as Peter shifted his focus from Jesus to the wind and waves, he began to sink. We must understand that Jesus is the only way to remain above the water, and we must keep our eyes fixed on him. This means that we need to keep approaching him in all aspects of our life, like with prayers, attending church services, and living as Christ-like as possible.

Walking on water with Jesus is not a myth; it is a spiritual journey. We must be willing to take those steps of faith, listen to his voice, and trust the power of his name and presence. It’s not an impossible feat, but rather an illustration of our strength as believers. When we put our faith in him, we can experience the miraculous and take bold steps towards the journey that he has for us. Let’s continue to keep our eyes on Jesus, he is the only way to walk on water! God Bless You!
