Well, of course in London we went to see the famous house of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. In the best English traditions, we stood in a long line and immersed ourselves in an authentic atmosphere.

I can give advice. On Mondays, tourists who are eager to visit the holy of holies are not so numerous, so it is the queues are not so big.

Inside, visitors are treated to carefully recreated interiors, saturated with antiques and recognizable things of Conan Doyle’s heroes. Available for viewing are the living room, the private rooms of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and Mrs. Hudson.

Cozy. Photos from the Internet

The museum has a souvenir shop with a good assortment: postcards, small trinkets for memory or a quite good gift, for example, a Sherlock hunting hat or a collection of detective adventures in English.

However, I was really surprised by the sherlock statue. To be honest, I didn’t know there was one.

There are few tourists around it, but nevertheless someone is constantly taking pictures. Photo from personal archive

Since there was no free space on Baker Street itself, the statue was installed near the entrance to Baker Street underground station on the Marylebone Road. I liked the statue immensely. And the shoes are so masculine, natural )).

The statue was installed as recently as 1999. Before that, the society (the London Sherlock Holmes Society), according to its president Anthony Howlett, spent “a decade or two arguing whether we should install the statue right in the middle of Baker Street, and to hell with traffic jams.” But they decided that traffic jams would finally finish off car traffic in London and thus the statue ended up here. however, not far from the detective’s fictional house at 221B Baker Street and the Sherlock Holmes Museum.

Where else would I look? Well, of course here:

The “Sherlock Holmes” pub, is located next to the Charing Cross underground station. Photo from the Internet

A wonderful place, extremely popular among fans of Sherlock Holmes. The pub opened more than half a century ago. Previously, this building housed the Northumberland Arms Hotel, where Henry Baskerville stayed in the story “The Hound of the Baskervilles” and where his shoes began to disappear one by one. The menu in the pub is designed in the tradition of the works of Conan Doyle. I can recommend a wonderful steak )).

And about Scotland Yard, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, where Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes first met and the Covent Garden market, we will talk about soon...
