Alternative Routes to University Degrees
Education: Top Up Degrees & Diplomas
Today, I am going to tell you about alternative routes to getting university degrees that you may or may not be aware of within Africa. If you plan it well, you can get an international degree experience at a fraction of the cost of doing a full degree in Europe or America. You’ll also save on living expenses too as the cost of living in Africa is often lower.
Note: Often times, the courses are delivered in collaboration with local colleges but the awarding institution on your certificate may be another organisation.
Example Routes
Rather than doing a straight 3 year degree course, you could combine qualifications at different levels to get your degree.
Computing Degree Route
- Finish High School
- Study and Pass ABMA Computing and Information Systems Level 4 Diploma (equivalent to year 1 of university). The teaching institution was Christian College of Southern Africa (CCOSA) in Harare Zimbabwe.
- Study and Pass ABMA Computing and Information Systems Level 5 Diploma (equivalent to year 2 of university).
- Move to Mauritius and enrol on the Top Up Degree in Information Technology and Business Information Systems (BSc ITBIS) at Middlesex University (Mauritius Campus) and get a full computing BSc Degree.
Business Degree Route
- Do a level 3 qualification e.g. LCCI Sales & Marketing Level 3 Course at People’s College, Harare, Zimbabwe.
- Do the ABMA Business Management Level 4 course in a local college
- Do the ABMA Business Management Level 5 course in a local college
- Move to Kenya and do the Top Up Degree in Business Management from Sunderland University (UK) but taught by INTel College in Kenya.
