The idea that gratitude helps us fight off the guilt of privilege is new and fresh for me, and I feel like it is a great insight. Gratitude for every morsel of our lives adds depth and richness to our existence and is a strong antidote to depression: it is very hard to feel grtitude and depression simultaneously. And I often do feel the “guilt of privilege,” but that guilt should never result in feeling undeserving. Nothing, neither the good nor the bad, comes to us because we “deserve it;” it comes because we are sentient beings having a life experience.
