I didn’t know about the term “Life Script” until early last year. I figured that other people probably had no idea what it meant either, so after about a year and a half of sitting on this idea, this short series was born.

What the Hell is a Life Script?

In the simplest of terms, a life script is how you interpret the meaning of your life and the events that take place, as well as how you expect life to play out.

For most people, this is solidified in childhood.

We grow up exposed to the ideas of our parents, family, and friends. We become similar to them, and expect similar things out of life.

Of course, the specifics are all different.

You might go to nursing school while your best friend from elementary goes into engineering.

In general, you’re both successful, with good careers and a spouse, maybe those 2.5 children and a house with a white picket fence.

It sounds scripted, no?

Not All Life Scripts Are the Same

Yet other people you know — with whom you became educated or were simply acquainted with— end up on the “wrong side of the tracks.”

So how did your life, wherever you are, end up so differently compared to the people you know?

Their scripts are different. They’re following the lines and blocking from an entirely different movie.

Why It’s Important to Know Your Life Script

Have you ever been at a point in your life when you look around and ask what the hell happened to you?

A point when you wake up only to realize how uncomfortable and upset you are with how your life turned out or where it’s heading?

That’s the moment you figured out that you were reading from the wrong life script.

Knowing your Life Script means you have the ability and knowledge to change what happens in future scenes if you don’t like the foreshadowing right now.

Understanding how you were raised and what experiences played into how your Life Script formed is essential to determining if you’re in the right role for the right movie.

What’s in Your Life Script?

Take a moment to think about all the things you expected about your life when you were a child. Your career, your family, what your finances would look like, your health.

How does it compare to where you are now?

What do you need to change to change the ending of your story?
