A simple observation that made me see why I love social media afterall.
Just now I realized why I do what I do. I work in marketing. Social media — or rather “digital marketing”. And while looking for inspiration and ideas for new content, I was aimlessly browsing (I find most of the things that inspire me by accident so I just stroll around, hoping to stumble upon something nice), followed a few mentions on some Instagram posts of random people and got stuck for a few minutes on that one persons profile.
On any other day, it might have just been another polished, “things-neatly-organized”-feed with the occasional foodporn. Today, it made me see clearly.
Diving into someones life for a few minutes and just… having a look, really, is something I love about all this social media stuff. The stuff that oftentimes gets overwhelming, annoying and irritating. Working with it, sometimes makes you forget why you loved it in the first place because lets face it, you get numb. Once exciting things turn to daily business. Not today. Today I felt inspired.
That’s the thing — everything is branded, pushed, planned months ahead and simply not real anymore. At least that’s the kind of disenchantment you run into when doing exactly that professionally. You brand, you push, you plan months ahead.
But every now and then you see something that you love, that actually really helps you, that at least seems true and honest and even though someone made sure it looks that way thus turning it into something that isn’t that honest, true or inspiring — it still works for you. On this day, in this very moment. And sometimes you need to put that into words, despite the fact that this is what it is anyways and all along. For many, this is no news. For me, however, it was a needed revelation.
