An international design competition was held, and Argentine-American architect Cesar Pelli was selected as the winner. His design was inspired by geometric motifs in Islamic architecture, featuring two twin towers that symbolize unity and progress.
A Marvel of Modern Engineering
Construction of the Petronas Twin Towers began in 1992 and took seven years to complete. The cost of this magnificent project was a staggering US$1.6 billion.
The Petronas Twin Towers were officially opened in 1998 and became the tallest buildings in the world for six years, until they were surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2004.
