The awards were held Richings Park Sports Club on a lovely summer’s day, presented by Wendy Matthews, supported by Vice-Chair of the Board Ralph Bagge.

Chairman of the Board, Trevor Egleton, would like to thank Ralph Bagge and Wendy Matthews hosting the awards in his stead, and expressed his delight at the amount and quality of volunteers throughout the Board area. We are hugely lucky to have a wide-ranging selection of groups and people in the board area, across all age ranges, from all backgrounds, who help contribute to establishing and maintaining such a thriving and inclusive community.

Community Group Contribution

Winner: Golden Oldies

Our winning group offers residents a safe place to interact with their fellow neighbours and aims to get them out of their homes after the pandemic. A loyal, caring and kind group who of people that volunteer their time every Wednesday to provide a warm place with lunch, along with games, bingo, and quizzes for the people of the Ivers and surrounding areas based at St. Peter’s church hall.

Highly Commended: 1st Iver Heath Scouts

Now, this particular group help approximately one hundred young people every week, aiding them to help their community by undertaking activities such as litter picking. The group offers support to families who would struggle financially to keep their children attending sessions by offering a support fund. This group continue to create a programme of activities which give young people a variety of challenging, but, more importantly, fun evenings. They go above and beyond, and the community is highly fortunate to have such a dedicated team committed to delivering a great experience for young people. From all of this, it is clear to see why.

Young Community Champion

Winner: Matthew Heys

Now, our youngest winner is passionate about golf, and helps their community in so many different ways. They have organised and hosted a Junior Captains charity golf day, raising in excess of £1500 for Thames hospice, and devotes his time to holding a weekly class for younger children to help improve their golf game, acting as a mento. They have been described at dedicated, driven and supportive.

Local Community Champion

Winner: Valerie Tuckwell

Our winner in this category was nominated so many times, and was called amazing, kind, friendly, selfless, caring, among many, many other words. I am sure you will agree, those qualities are more needed than ever. The community are eternally grateful for the endless amount of volunteering this lady is committed too, some of which include end of life support, helping the Ivers Hive and St Peter’s Church, and is always compassionate, and provides a friendly face and an ear for anyone who needs it. Her home has even been taken over by the donations she collects and distributes to the community! She is a pillar of support, an invaluable part of the community, and always fondly thought of.

Highly Commended: Ciaran Beary

For our highly commended nominee in the Local Community Champion category, words that were used to describe him included compassionate, consistent, and responsive. He has been volunteering with London-Slough run for many years, collecting, and distributing food it to a range of groups and locations where it can be used to create warm meals or distributed to families and individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford access to fresh food. Additionally, he has made it possible to supply fresh food, such as bread, vegetables, ready meals, to a local school, also sourcing items to support their breakfast club. It is clear that many people hold him in high esteem, and that he really does always go the extra mile.
