Landing with a summer internship in a different city could turn into a challenge if you don’t have a resource to find housing. So utilize all types of options available to you in finding a place to stay during your internship.

Friends and extended family: It’s always worth to start with the known peoples as there are chances of getting free housing and in utilizing them to be familiar with the place.

Mentor: It’s the toughest decision to take and in requesting your mentor for staying with them during your internship. But you would realize it’s worth either at the end of your internship or during your career. As you would have several chances to interact with your mentor about a lot of things you have come across and for receiving amazing advice after work or on the weekends.

Potential Resources: Your college or university department would definitely have some potential contacts to support in your housing. Even if they aren’t helpful to you their references would help you to find a place to stay. If your internship is nearer to any college or university, then check with them too. As they may offer temporary housing on campus. If your employer is a constant recruiter of interns then you can get contacts of property owners. You can even get the help of your fellow interns as they’re well aware of the properties which are good and which are to be avoided. If the city is a metropolitan then you could avail the assistance of agencies that offer the list of places with their rental amounts.

  • You could also utilize the assistance of Educational Housing Services which offers safe, affordable places for students to live across America and furthermore in 50 countries.
  • Airbnb is a well-known site for short term rentals which allows you to search for a room in almost any city. It’s perfect if you only have a 6-week internship and don’t want to pay for a three-month summer lease.
  • Campusrent.com is a site where students from several places post their summer sublease details for awesome apartments. So you can find a lot of great deals through connections you never knew you had!
  • Mycheapapartments.com is useful to you if you’re on a tight budget. Just make sure to do your research before you agree to a lease!
  • Living with a stranger could be a little scary so in order to overcome it, you can find a roommate first and then find a place to live together. Easyroommate.com has roommate screening and also housing lists.
  • Websites like Craigslist or Oodle list housing options that are available for rent or sublet. PadMapper is an easy-to-use search tool for housing posted on websites such as Craigslist, Apartments.com, and Rent.com. You can also sign up for email alerts too. Facebook is another great place — look at university housing near you.

However, you have to do more research and contact the owner before finalizing the place since scams and misrepresentations are more likely to come across your search. So get the help of those living around to check the place even if you can’t visit the places. These lists would help you to find a perfect place for your summer internship.
