iOS 15 May Not Be Available For Older iPhone Models

Apple recently revealed the upcoming iOS 15 at their Annual Worldwide Development Conference (WWDC). Unfortunately, iOS 15 may not be available to some of the oldest model iPhones due to their outdated hardware capabilities.

Models Not Compatible with iOS 15

The iPhone models that are not likely to receive the iOS 15 update includes:

  • iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE (first generation)
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

Explanation Behind Compatibility

This decision is due to the hardware limitation of the listed iPhone models as they only contain 2GB of RAM. Apple requires devices to have a minimum of 2GB for the newest software updates and older models are lacking in this department.

How This Could Affect iPhone Users

Many users who have iPhones from the list above are in the unfortunate situation where their phone cannot receive the software update. This means that their phone will no longer receive security patches, bug fixes or any other new features that come with the iOS 15 update.

Recommendations for iPhone Users

For users whose iPhones are affected, the best course of action is to upgrade to a newer model as soon as possible in order to be able to stay up to date with the newest software updates. Another option might be to switch to a different brand of mobile phone that still supports the device.
