We continue discussing the favorites of The International 2019. Our neural network MoreMMR AI is already analyzing teams and soon we will find out the favorites of the artificial intelligence on TI9. In addition to Team Secret, Evil Geniuses settled in the list of favorites. The North American eSports organization is considered one of the oldest and stable in its region. The tag was formed back in 2009, when the second part of DotA was under development.
One of the first Dota rosters was led by Clinton “Fear” Loomiz. The team played with Fear for only 9 months under the tag of EG, because the organization considered the DotA Allstars eSports direction not promising.
But in 2011, Dota 2 appeared on the e-sports map with the huge prize pool for that time, which forever changed the understanding of e-sports and tournaments. After The International 2011, which had a prize pool of a million dollars, Evil Geniuses contacted Fear once again. At that time, Clinton played in Online Kingdom with players from Europe.
Fear accepted the “Evil Geniuses” contract, and he managed to assemble a roster from the stars of that time — Rasmus “MISERY” Philipsen, Jimmy “DeMoN” Ho, Playmate and Per Anders “Pajkatt” Olsen Lille. For two years, the roster was constantly changing and there were no results.
Everything changed after the defeat in the qualifiers at The International 2013. EG dismissed the Dota 2 team but retained an interest in the discipline. Later, Fear himself assembled a roster of young players who were playing for S A D B O Y S. At that time, Arthur “Arteezy” Babaev, Peter “ppd” Dagger and Ludwig “zai” Wahlberg appeared on the Dota 2 esports scene.
The new team showed excellent results before The International 2014. At TI4, the American team came to the tournament with the status of main favorites. Unfortunately for the fans of “Evil Geniuses” they managed to take only third place.
However, it was after this performance at the main tournament of the year that Evil Geniuses entrenched among the strongest teams in the World. In January 2015, the composition has undergone changes. Instead of Arteezy and Zai, Curtis “Aui_2000” Ling and Sayyid Samail “SumaiL” Hassan joined the organization. In this line-up, EG became winners at The International 2015 and received $ 6.5 million. No matter how the line-ups change, “Evil Geniuses” always remain favorites in almost any tournament. In total, the organization earned more than $ 18 million throughout its history in Dota 2.
Dota Pro Circuit Season 2018/2019
Evil Geniuses took 4th place in the Dota Pro Circuit 2018/2019 season. The EG played in all Major Dota Pro Circuit 2018/2019 tourneys and three times became the bronze medalist. In most brackets, the team could not beat Virtus Pro and Team Secret — the first two lines in the DPC rankings.
Evil Geniuses failed on the last major of the season — the team completed the group stage on the third place and lost to OG in the first playoff match. But the team has already secured the fourth place in the DPC rating, which allowed a more relaxed attitude towards the defeat. In general, the year for “Evil Geniuses” turned out to be successful, even if it ended on a minor note.

Why are EG TI9 favorites?
Throughout the 2018/2019 season, the team demonstrated simple tactics but often used characters that were not typical of meta. For example, the team very often used Mirana, although for others this character appeared extremely rarely.
Strategically, EGs play approximately stable on all tournaments. First of all, they try to ensure a good start to the midlaner, Sumail, so that he provides space for the team farm. Unfortunately, this strategy has vulnerabilities — itcan be defeated with early aggression and push. It’s not always possible to tighten the game to the late game, which means that EG may have difficulties with this.
What place do you think will EG take on the upcoming TI9?
