E-learning: The Future That Has Already Come

From sending homework via mail to comprehensive online materials and courses, digital learning has made its way through tons of disbelief and become what we call today “E-learning”.

According to Reuters, the E-learning market is predicted to reach $275 billion by 2022.

So, what is it and why has it skyrocketed so fast? Let’s start with the E-learning definition.

What is E-learning?

E-learning or electronic learning is the process of delivering information through digital means. Though a term was coined not very long ago (in 1999), the concept appeared significantly earlier. In the 19th century, students were offered distance courses and sent their teachers assignments by post. Then in 1924, they became able to test their knowledge with the help of the first testing machine and in 30 years professor of Harvard university Skinner (a familiar name, isn’t it?) invented the “teaching machine”. This story can be proceeded and proceeded, but what strikes the most is that the thing that is so affordable nowadays was a privilege at that time. The IBM PC, for instance, 39 years ago cost the equivalent of $4,5K.

Today students from all over the world actively participate in the E-learning process. Furthermore, companies with household names implement E-learning…
