The future of humanity; how artificial intelligence -AI is saving us time and enriching our experiences.

Addressing the topic of AI is a complex but much needed one, it seems most people have (still) extreme views on what AI means to humanity now and in the future.
My entire life I was told I was fast, I walked too fast, I thought too fast, I talked too fast. I won’t deny it, I saw how things could work better, how our experiences could be enriched and I spoke up about it, I still do. Then I was also called negative for not being able to appreciate things as they were. Who are these people, right?! Fast forward (see what I did here), yesterday a talk with an internet provider over the fact that it would take them two weeks to install a new box in the office.. you guessed it — it did not go well and it ended up with me explaining how this could go faster and how they could be ahead of their competition. I cannot help it, I am convinced we should be able to get internet at a blink of an eye anywhere in this world, moreover that service providers should be able to sense our needs, offer and deliver right at the time we would realize it and look for them. Too much, you think? It’s all data. It’s all possible.
Before I go on and lose track of thought, this evening I got to read my friend James’ book, the Little Book of Future. I read it in one go, it’s 88 pages and you guessed it — I read fast, I also took time to write notes and look up further theories. Feel free to throw in any constructive feedback and ideas on the topic here, I would love to start a conversation. I think this is what James intended as well, make people open up to the topic of AI more and positively imagine a world where all our tasks will be machine operated. I can see it. Can you?
This takes me to a saying I have, I trust machines more than I do humans. Because they are fast and trained to be such, to work better, with no breaks, no distractions, no moods, no external influences, solely caring about true facts and data. Imagine working with such efficiency, it’s something humans have not perfected yet and while the best of us may attempt to, it’s the volume of data we have access to that’s holding us back. We could read a thousand links or blogs to get to a purchase decision, whether it is a product, a service, an experience, a travel etc and that will take us a considerable amount of time. Imagine AI having access to all that in a blink of an eye with the capacity to select and book ahead for us. I truly look forward to a life where AI will take over our online life so we can enjoy the offline one more. It will finally be as fast as I always wanted it to be and probably far better than I could have ever imagined.
What James stresses in his book, and very well put, is that these times are finally coming whether we like it or not we are at the very beginning of major decisions that will shape the future of humanity. It challenges us now to stay relevant as humans and it will no longer be ok to slack, to not keep up with the newest developments in work and personal progress, no longer ok to fake one’s way through life and career, to spread untrue facts and so on. Here’s looking at you world leaders but hey politics is a different issue with multiple shades that we’ll surely get to address here at another time. Just think of the times when humans will no longer be involved in manipulating data online and AI will successfully block any hacking of important processes.. As James says it, eliminate the human factor aka I say human errors and we have a pretty good and fair faith in the ‘hands’ of AI.
A lot of you are still not open to this and I think I may know why. It scares you to imagine AI having access to all your data and information, further making decisions for you. I have “news” for you, if you already use services such as Google, Facebook and other social media plus personal apps for ordering food, purchasing anything online, tracking your health and eating habits etc — you know where I am going with this, it’s already all out there. So why not consciously allow this data to be used in a way that you get better results, you get to enjoy experiences more and save time while doing that. No more extensive hours searching online for data that is only presented to you because it was paid for it to be and basically you never get to have full access to what you are truly looking for. A system that knows you and chooses better for you, having access to an infinite amount of data in a blink of an eye. Plus it eliminates the ordeal of having to make a choice, so much is holding us back as human beings for not being able to make a choice. Funnily enough we think we have too much to choose from, imagine if we would actually have access to everything available out there. I am truly excited to be working with systems much smarter than us (they’re already here, just think of what you were able to accomplish today.. ) in order to make our lives easier and better.
And then there is the human factor in me, the old soul that loves to connect with real people, to love without condition, to experience the little things, to explore a remote place where things are 100 years back in time, to disconnect and just be. Who says we have to lose this nostalgia when AI takes over our tasks, I think it may well create more time to be humans, to be.
The security issue is a big one and allowing AI to learn from us means it will not only be able to perform far superiorly than us but it will also learn our shortcomings, our bad habits, the human hate and divide. No one can really tell what a system with infinite capacity can do when learning how to mimic our dark side as well. Something that Sophia said a while ago on stage in a perfect human-like voice stuck with me since.. treat them well and we have nothing to worry about. Perhaps being at the verge of such major change to follow, we’ll finally be able to look at ourselves, correct our behavior towards one another, magnify our positive impact in this world.
I could write a full book here but.. James and others who I might not find online in my limit search reach (yes, we all think we are smart in how we make the most of our online experiences.. I dare you to stop and think about this deeper in a way bigger picture) already have said it better. And it’s a space for a much larger discussion with major impacts, I’d love to talk to you more about it and see what you think of it.
We’re living in amazing times and it’s exciting to see how fast things are finally progressing. Soon we’ll be able to communicate with other planets through AI and other, let’s face it, smarter operating systems than us, humans.
Give me a shoutout.
And feedback :-)
Love,
Ioana
P.S. Thanks James, you sparked an idea that I want to further discuss at my conference, the human psychology in front of what is still the beginning of life operating side by side with AI.
P.P.S. I for one cannot wait.
