Some time ago, I needed to record all of my expenses and income. It’s always a good idea to know what’s coming in and what’s going out. And I came across GnuCash.

What is GnuCash anyway?

GnuCash is personal and small-business financial-accounting software, freely licensed under the GNU GPL and available for BSD, Solaris, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows.

Several reasons I choose GnuCash to track all my financial transactions.

  1. It’s simple. So if you’d like to use it for personal purpose. It’s ideal. Even for your small business, GnuCash is still fine for you to handle all the transactions of the business.
  2. It’s free of charge. You could just download the software and give it a try without worrying about the price and re-fund issue.
  3. It’s free software. You could find the definition of “free software” here. Simply put, there is a strong community behind this project. So likely decades later, GnuCash would still be around. Thanks to the kind programmers dedicating their time to maintain/develop this software.

GnuCash is a accounting program really easy to use. I hope you’ll find it useful as well. Although the UI is not that pretty, the features are sufficient enough for us to record all the necessary transactions. Any feedback is welcome.
