Sometimes, we adore the characteristics of someone that we eagerly want to see in us. I take virtual classes, and one of my mentor's talking styles is a breath of fresh air. Her eloquent speech and timbre voice usually resonated with my spirit.

Yesterday, I was in a meeting! After the meeting ended, it came to my mind what it's like to have an influential voice that people want to listen to since some people have zeal and spark in their voice that automatically draws your attention.

But some people do speak well. Still, the lack of confidence set them apart from being a "good speaker."

So, I dug into how to speak better and came across this TED Talk, "How to speak so that people want to listen," by Julian Treasure. I want to share gems of insight I learned from it.

I will start with the speaking habits that one must avoid while speaking. Here we go,

Let's take a general view of this;

Gossiping, Judging, Complaining, and Exaggeration are the demons in your conversation:

We don't think twice about gossiping behind someone's back, which makes you dishonest because others might be listening to your gossip, but they deem you a threat of blabbermouth.

Maybe you would be a person who judges others without considering how it may reflect you as a person in front of others. For instance, when someone discusses how his car ran out of gas amid hustling traffic, causing him to lose his interview for the job. Meanwhile, you try to teach him the value of discipline and judge him without showing concern, a disrespectful way of treating others's emotions.

No one wants to be surrounded by those who complain and sulk about the situation forever OR someone who always talks about themselves as irrelevant to everyday life. So, next time, watch your actions before they become a problem!

And now, the 4 Cornerstone for an eloquent speech, follow HAIL:

HONESTY=H=, One should be straightforward and "a man of words" while speaking.

Authenticity=A=, It should be seen in your actions, not just remain for speaking.

Integrity=I=, One should do what they tell.

Love=L=, Showing love for others, having a room of empathy.

The most vital part to communicate better is "How you speak?"

1. Weight of your voice: The softer and deeper the voice, the more people like to listen.

2. Timber: The tone of your voice is a gold mine for your personality, so it should be smooth, rich, and warm.

3. Pace: A proper pace stands out your speech. Many times, silence also plays an important role.

4. Volume: Not too loud that others put their hands on their ears or not too slow that others can't even hear. It should be resonant and warm for the spirit.

5. Prosody: Proper stress should be given to the crucial areas of your discussion, stopping it from becoming dull.

I would like to conclude this piece by adding that,

Listen more than you speak, and be yourself!

Feel free to clap as many times as you want, and also let me know if it helps you.
