5 Pillars of Islam

Islam is the second-largest religion in the world after Christianity. Arabia has always been the centre of spreading Islam. Because the last Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) started spreading the message of Islam from this city, and it is the land of birth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). According to Sahih Muslim Hadith, the faith of every Muslim is based on the 5 activities that are expressed in the Book of Hadith as the 5 Pillars of Islam. These are the basic 5 foundations to strengthen the edifice of Islam. No one can be a true Muslim without accepting them.

Five Pillars of Islam:
. Shahadah
. Salah
. Zakah
. Sawm
. Hajj

Shahadah:

Shahadah is the basic and first pillar of the building of Islam because it means declaring faith

The declaration of faith here does not mean declaring it loudly among the people, but accepting from the heart that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The main purpose of this announcement is to spend your life in the service of Allah and obeying Him, and here obedience to Allah means following the teachings of the last Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Salah:

Salah means prayer which is performed 5 times a day, and it is obligatory for every person. 5 times prayers create a direct link between the worshipper and Allah. Allah gifted the 5 times prayers to Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) on the night of Miraj. Therefore, Muslims are expected to pray 5 times a day. Muslims pray in the mosque, and it is not necessary, but they are obligated to pray towards Kaaba.

Salah is performed at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and night.

Zakah (Zakat):

Everything in the universe is the property of Allah, therefore, in reality, everything that man has is trust. The original meaning of Zakat is both growth and purification. The primary purpose of paying Zakat is to meet the needs of the poor in society.

Every Muslim can individually calculate his obligatory charity. Annual Zakat paid 2.5% of the accumulated wealth or capital is mandatory for every deserving person.

Sawm:

Sawm is an Arabic word that means fasting. Fasting during Ramadan is obligatory for every Muslim, and some nafli sawms come at different times of the year. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, in which Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk.

Ramadan is a very holy month because Allah says it is my month. Therefore, most Muslims prefer to perform Umrah this month who can perform it. The best advice for such Muslims is to get Ramadan Umrah packages, as they can get a chance of visiting the various Ziyarats in these packages at a better price.

It is mentioned in Quran:

Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain piety- (2:183)

During fasting, a Muslim overcomes his 3 basic human needs such as drinking, eating, and sex. Fasting in Ramadan is obligatory for every adult Muslim who is physically and mentally capable.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever observes the fasts of Ramadan with complete faith and with the intention of reward, his past sins are forgiven.

Hajj:

Hajj is obligatory only for those who can physically and financially afford it. More than two million people from all over the world visit Mecca every year. This journey is a bit more difficult than Umrah as Muslims spend 4 to 5 days in Hajj performing various acts of worship.

Hajj begins on the 8th day in the 12th month of the Islamic lunar year, and the name of this month is Dhul-Hijjah.

Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) said, whoever performs Hajj and doesn’t utter obscenities or sin, will come back just like the day when his mother bore him.

Muslims can book their “Hajj Packages 2023” in advance to easily perform Hajj with the best accommodation and other facilities.
