On Saturday 13th February, we held the fifth ever Frontstack event! Due to the current state of the world, we held the event online for the first time ever via Zoom. The entire event was also live-streamed to YouTube, and is available to watch below!

Our prior events were about Responsive Web Design, How to use APIs, Writing Modern CSS and Media on the Web. This year, the theme was Frontend Favourites!

What Happened?

In this event, we had 9 amazing speakers from 3 countries. Each speaker spoke about their favourite aspects of developing for the web.

To kick off the…

In my 2019 Year in Review, I wrote:

Next year is going to be a significant year for me for a lot of different reasons. I’m looking forward to writing my 2020 year in review :)

I had a lot of plans for this year which, for obvious reasons, didn’t entirely get fulfilled. I was planning for 2020 to be a “gap year”, where I would travel to different places, try new things, and just generally live my best life.

Luckily for me, I was able to celebrate my 29th birthday with some friends in Barbados just before everything hit…

As you may have noticed, the price of Bitcoin has been steadily rising over the last few weeks. We broke the previous highest price of ~$19,997 in December 2017, and, at the time of writing, the price is now $26,931.31 (over ₦13m)!

When is the best time to invest in Bitcoin?

A lot of people tend to think that you need to invest a large amount of your money in one go, preferably at a “dip”, so you can then sell at a “peak”. But a more strategic method is what is called “dollar cost averaging”.

DCA is “is an investment strategy that aims to reduce the impact…

Frontstack 2020 Attendees

On Saturday 25th January 2020, we held the fourth ever Frontstack event in Lagos, Nigeria! Frontstack is a conference organised by myself, Ire Aderinokun, with the mission to grow the developer ecosystem by creating exposure to frontend technologies.

Each conference, we have a particular topic around which the talks and codelabs are based on. Our prior events were about Responsive Web Design, How to use APIs, and Writing Modern CSS. The topic of this conference was Media on the Web!

What happened?

In this event we had seven sessions.

2018 was an incredibly busy year filled with a lot of pretty big “firsts”. 2019, on the other hand, has been more a year of consolidation and doing a bit better than last year in most aspects of my life. All in all, I think it’s been a good end to the decade :)

BuyCoins 💜

2019 was an interesting year for me at BuyCoins because it was the first full year where we operated as a “real company”. Before going through YC last summer, BuyCoins (then Bitkoin Africa) was just a side project I worked on with Timi Ajiboye as a…

Frontstack is a conference organised by myself, Ire Aderinokun, with the mission to grow the developer ecosystem by creating exposure to front-end technologies.

On Tuesday 26th February 2019, we held the third ever Frontstack event. Following on from our first two events which were about Responsive Web Design and How to use APIs, this was about a favourite topic of mine, Writing Modern CSS!

What happened?

In this event, we had four sessions by four amazing speakers, who covered all the shiny new features of CSS.

2018 has been a year of many challenges for me, both professionally and personally. Although it has been hard, I have probably grown more this year than any other year in a while.

In 2018, I…

  • Visited 10 countries, 4 of them new 🇧🇯 🇵🇹 🇬🇧 🇳🇱 🇸🇪 🇩🇰 🇺🇸 🇷🇸 🇫🇷 🇪🇸
  • Wrote 35 articles, 30 of which were written in 6 weeks!
  • Published 7 videos, 2 of them vlogs
  • Spoke at 6 conferences
  • Read / listened to 10 books
  • Made 1,208 GitHub contributions

I’ve been doing these end of year reviews for a couple of years now (2016

Almost a year ago, I decided to sponsor some Nigerian women interested in the technology field to complete a Udacity Nanodegree of their choice:

I paid for them to complete their Nanodegrees within a specified time period (which was about 6 months depending on the particular Nanodegree). 11 months later, 4 of the 7 women I sponsored successfully completed their Nanodegrees, and I thought I would share how the process went and my thoughts on it after the fact.

Why?

The short answer for why I wanted to do this in the first place is because I was/am able to.

On Saturday 24th February, we had our second ever Frontstack event. For those that don’t know, Frontstack is a conference started by Christian Nwamba and F.Merry, and myself, Ire Aderinokun, with the mission to grow the developer ecosystem by creating exposure to front-end technologies. Despite the large amount of technology conferences in Nigeria and Africa, we noticed there was still a gap in knowledge specific to frontend development, and decided to solve this with Frontstack.

Following on from our first event, which was about Responsive Web Design, in this second event we decided to cover the topic of how to…

I had a really great time writing my previous 2016 Year in Review, so let’s do this again 😊

Work 👩🏾‍💻

This year, for many reasons, I decided it was time for me to get a job at a company outside Nigeria. I started applying for jobs in December last year, and applied for *loads* of jobs, most of which either never responded or responded negatively.

It wasn’t until I tweeted about my search for a remote job that I got many meaningful responses, which eventually led to me getting a position with the awesomest company, eyeo!
