Looking back at the Asheville winter storm of February 25, 2015

All in all, the forecast for the Asheville area was success. Several other local meteorologists and weather enthusiasts around the area produced a snowfall forecast that was pretty much on target. My forecast for Asheville was 4–8 inches with a lean toward the higher end of the range. Actual totals were generally 4–6 inches. The liquid precipitation measured at AVL airport was roughly 0.50 inches while several computer models were generating QPF totals of 0.60 to 0.80 inches. If those model outputs were actually realized, the final snow tallies probably would have ended up closer to 6–8 inches. Still, overall I’m happy with my forecast and even happier playing in the snow and sledding with my wife and son!
