Mission Impossible is a saga that as we know it has started since it was a tv show back in the 60s now this movie series has lasted almost 30 years and being one of the best action sagas, there are some drawbacks that the current franchise has suffered, although in general it is very good, today we are going to accommodate them from worst to best.

7 Mission: Impossible 2 (2000)

This installment is undeniably the weakest of the series thus far, primarily due to it’s deviation from the established tone. The film comes across as excessively absurd and ludicrous, riddled with numerous inconsistencies that hinder the overall cohesiveness. Moreover, it lacks the compelling elements that characterize the franchise, rendering the plot mundane and unmemorable. The characters, including the villian, fail to leave a lasting impact on the audience. It is apparent that director John Woo aimed to introduce something novel, but the departure from the franchise’s core essence creates an unfavorable contrast, resulting in an underwhelming cinematic experience.

6 Mission: Impossible (1996)

This movie served as the catalyst that kickstarted the entire franchise, introducing a fresh perspective to the original narrative and injecting newfound intrigue into the series with a very interesting plot with some plot twists. It is well directed, featuring commendable performances and engaging action sequences. Notably, it provided Tom Cruise with one of his most privotal roles, contributing to a remarkably solid and compelling cinematic experience.

5 Mission: Impossible 3 (2006)

In this particular installment, the portrayal of one of the best villains, skillfully portrayed by Phillip Seymour Hoffman, stands out as a remarkable highlight. His performance exudes exceptional talent and adds depth to the storyline. Additionally, the introduction of pivotal characters with significant relevance to future films enhances the narrative’s depth and complexity. This solid installment once again revitalizes the franchise, incorporating well executed action sequences, surprising twists, and an overall compelling cinematic experience.

4 Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation (2015)

At times, i find myself considering the possibilty of swapping this installment with the fifth position, as both films share similar qualities. This particular entry proves to be a commendable installment, boasting well-executed action sequences that captivate the audience. The reason for it’s current placement is due to it’s accessibility and entertainment value, surpassing the film ranked above in these aspects. Additionally, the introduction of new director Christopher McQuarrie injects a fresh perspective, elevating the franchise to a new level of excellence.

3 Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol (2011)

This installment marks a turning point in the franchise, standing out as the most exceptional one up to that point. The film’s incredible quality is evident through it’s meticulous attention to detail in terms of storytelling, action sequences, visual effects, and performances. The tense and intense moments are masterfully executed, contributing to an exceptional delivery of the Mission Impossible series. It serves as a prime example of how to create a film of this genre with utmost skill and craftmanship.

2 Mission: Impossible Fallout (2018)

This film stands as the pinnacle and the epitome of what the franchise was believed to have achieved, as it exhibits an exceptional level of excellence across all aspects. It successfully delivers a superb action movie with an engaging pace, well-crafeted script, compelling characters, and a csrefully balanced and exhilarating narrative enriched with intriguing twists. This installment unquestionably surpassed it’s predecessors, asserting it’s position as the best within the franchise up to that moment. It has even solidified it’s status as a landmark film in the genre, destined to be remembered as one of the finest works in cinematic history.

1 Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)

I previously discussed this film in another article, but once again, i am astonished by how it managed to surpass it’s predecessor. The level of excellence displayed in every aspect, including the storytelling, sequences, and technical elements, is truly exceptional. Notably there is a marked improvement evident, resulting in an engaging and fullfiting cinematic experience that accomplishes it’s mission with precision. As time passes, it’s position within the saga may further evolve, solidifying it’s current standing as the pinnacle of the series. It adptly embodies the essence of a remarkable action, espionage, and adventure film, epitomizing the qualities one would expect from such a production.
