Can You Really Lose a Stone in 10 Days?
I recently stubbled across an ad in one of the multiple useless Facebook groups I’m part of.
I really need to do some clean up in socials…Well at least it gives me perspective into the world we live in.
The post about losing a stone in 10 Days received a lot of comments and attention. For my own sake and because I do not have the time to waste into some online drama, I will refrain myself from posting the screenshot.
But I’m sure we’ve all come across something similar. Which somehow seems too good, to be true. However in moments of desperation, our emotion lead us to irrational behaviour.
I have once been one of the people I’m shaming today for promoting and believe in such non-sense. I have been obese and desperate at some point. And relied on unorthodox, irrational, and dangerous practices to make me feel better.
By using your deepest sadness and frustration, they manipulate you into wasting your money on a “non-solution”. That’s what it should be called because that’s the reality of it.
You don’t lose any real weight in 10 days, there is no further guidance on how to maintain “the results”, and pretty much teaches you nothing, like providing some nutritional advice at least.
And yet we all buy sh*t like this at some point in life. Why? Because of desperation, frustration and unhappiness. Now let me ask you something. How long did it take you to become fat or obese? 5, 15, 25 years? Or maybe you have been like this since you have known yourself? So how dare you ask of your body major changes in only 10 days? Or 1 month? Or even impose any deadline on it all together?

Being fat is depressive. It is extremely painful to look at your naked body. I know. Sometimes I felt like grabbing a knife and cutting bits off, like my body was a pork chop and I was the butcher. I never did that, no worries. However I never thought of looking for a long lasting solution. I have never even considered to put the work in to get the amazing body I have always dreamt of.
Instead of looking up to people who have achieved great things in life and lead as a model, I would look down. I didn’t take the time to read about a bodybuilder’s life for example and understand the sacrifice she had to make to get that stage body. I would however get angry on skinny girls who can eat what they want and never gain weight. Can you see how I misplaced my energy? Can you see how I did nothing to improve my knowledge regarding fitness or nutrition, but I kept on living a sad life full of anger and resentment?
And that’s what this kind of short, stupid, restrictive diets do. They go straight for your deepest pain and insecurity and make it so hard for you not to act on it.
Dear mum, don’t let them take advantage of you anymore. Read, learn, research, embrace knowledge and follow role models. Nothing good in life comes easy, remember! Put the work in and when you reach your goal I promise you, the joy will explode out through your pores!
