What’s up with breastfeeding?
In modern days, with so many options out there, new mums don’t choose to breastfeed as much anymore. Or not for long period of time anyway. However no substitute out there can fully provide the same nutrients and antibodies that the breastmilk offers.
If you do decide to breastfeed read this carefully: your baby will be literally attached you all the time (unless you excess and he takes bottles….mine didn’t…at all) and your breasts will lose altitude. They will never look into your husband’s eyes again…more like towards his belly button. It’s tough and real.

Just because it is natural, just because your body is supposed to produce milk, it doesn’t mean you have to do it. It is not a duty but a choice.
Choose what’s best for you and your baby! This little angels have an amazing emotional radar, they absorb all your energy, good or bad. So if breastfeeding simply turns out to be too much, or you are experiencing pain, cracked bleeeding nipples, by all means stop.
If you are crazy enough and stubborn like me, and persist in your breasts losing altitude forever, here’s my advice.
My baby couldn’t breastfeed in the first week. His little cheeks were too weak for my super full breasts. So I used to pump a little bit before his feed. Just enough to relax my breast and get the flow going :)) also I would gently massage his face muscle. Not sure if it helped much but he was finally able to feed so I’ll give myself credit for that.
Now excess… I did it wrong myself for the first few months. I didn’t know and nobody taught me right. You produce milk on a demand and supply kind of thing. We all know that. Lots of moms produce too much, especially in the beginning, and you excess…a lot. I ended up expressly breastfeeding and pumping 8 per day. It was like this… if I am not feeding my boy I am pumping :)) My full time activity was milk related.
All jokes aside, I didn’t know how to reduce my supply. You’ll say, just stop or reduce excessing. I couldn’t. I was in so much pain and my breasts were so hard and swollen I could have easily end up with mastitis. So after months of too much milk related activity, I managed to control my supply and produce only enough for my boy. There’s a little secret I personally discovered in my journey. Are you ready for the smartest, easiest trick?
Don’t pump anymore. Hand squeeze your breast to release pain. When you pump, manual or electric pump, doesn’t matter, you stimulate more production. Involuntarily of course, because that pressure release feels so damn good you don’t know when to stop :) Only by using your hand you will be able to only get out the excess without further milk stimulation. And before you know it you produce exactly the right amount for your baby and say bye bye to excessing all day long.
And the best part yet… it won’t hurt anymore. Nice flat breast means pain free, uh uh :)
