I have to agree with andy, James. Your story does read a bit like a self help book, with the added “just live by your own definitions”, Zen like pop. I’ll also add my confusion of you espousing simple life connotations, while subtly being shocked or astounded by a former billionaire’s choice to live in a trailer park. The message of your story is quickly lost by the polarity of your tone. I’m definitely skeptical when I read about someone’s happiness resting with the simplicity of an ipad, and pointing out another person’s resulted happiness of riches to rags by choice, is the way to go and yet expresses disapproval at the end result. I suggest you keep searching.
