I was pretty far ahead in school and I remember having all those same experiences and feelings when people found out about my age. I also remember feeling like there was no way to express my discomfort (what kind of person complains about being called “the genius"?)
Luckily I now work for a company where, despite the fact that I’m the youngest person there, nobody makes a big deal of it and my salary is indicative of my skills, not my age. I’m also surrounded by super intelligent and experienced people, so nobody ever thinks I’m the smartest person in the room, which is a relief.
Anyway, on the strength of your argument, I think it’s about time for the tech world to drop the “kid prodigy" stereotype. It doesn’t really benefit anyone.
