Have a goal, have targets, have a plan
2016 has just begun and I can see a lot of people posting their New Year resolutions on social media. Well, it is nice to wish and to dream, but wishing and dreaming will lead you nowhere. It might even get you very frustrated in the end.
I carried this wonderful dream to become a published writer. But it came reality once I decided to take some concrete action in 2011.
I decided that it was high time to turn this dream into reality. So what did I do to make it happen? I first took advice from successful writers by reading their success stories. One of them (Barbara Sher, if I remember well), stated that if you have the courage to write 3 pages every day, you’d certainly obtain a full book within 3 months or so.
I already had a manuscript at this time. I decided to re-write it professionally, using my 10 year experience of being a freelance music journalist.
In the past, I had applied 500 publishers and faced only rejections. This time, I applied to two of them. One responded positively. In August 2012, I had my first book published.
I also started to follow Barbara Sher’s method. Between 2012 and 2013, I had 5 books out.
I am going to tell you all the truth: New Year’s resolutions will lead you nowhere. If you want to achieve something, take a pen and start writing down goals and targets. Start with a short-time view, than expand your vision as you start seeing results.
So, are you ready to make 2016 your best year in terms of success?
