Ideation

After practicing ideation in the studio on April 27, 2017, I was able to use some ideation strategies such as adding labels and using personal experiences to create ideas for sustainable commuting. By doing so, I started thinking about some ideas that could reduce the number of greenhouse gasses emitted into the atmosphere like hydraulic energy, solar energy, battery power, etc. I began to apply these ideas to the different types of vehicles I sketched and would start to label the certain aspects of how it could reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. As I sketched out the rest of my ideas, I began to think about what software or application would help decrease traffic congestion. I thought about the things that I and other individuals, like my peers, would want in a traffic software/application such as alerting the driver of nearby traffic, suggesting detour routes, providing the travel time, easy navigation, etc. After brainstorming my ideas, I began to sketch down what I came up with for software and applications when one of my drawings involved a mobile application to help drivers consider different route options to avoid traffic jams.

Reflection:

Ideation overall was enjoyable as there are little to no restrictions on whatever ideas I sketched down. The brainstorming aspect of ideation is the best since it is a wonderful way to start on developing a project. Although, it may have been a bit difficult coming up with different ideas for creating sustainable commuting. For instance, it was a bit challenging to come up with the various ideas for making vehicles with renewable sources and to decide whether it is useful. However, I realized that if some of my ideas do not work at least one of the ideas I sketched could work in real world situation.

Future Applications:

I believe ideation is an excellent way of planning on an upcoming project as it helps create ideas for a developer. Although, it may become a constraint as it may be difficult to come out with the best ideas in a short amount of time. However, the process with sketching out as many ideas as possible helped with finding an idea that seemed unique and resourceful. Also, ideation is limitless no matter how ridiculous or insane the ideas one may create. I am sure that in a real world situation, we will be provided with a considerable amount of time to build many ideas which will eventually help one choose the best plan to begin developing how a project will be laid out.
