So far, we have collected responses from more than 10,000 families spread out across various countries, like USA, Canada, India, UAE, UK, Nepal etc.We have designed this study to understand where people are seeking treatment if a family member contracts high fever, diarrhea, alcohol addiction and mental ailments. We are also trying to understand the perceived likelihoods of these diseases happening to one’s family member as compared with the actual prevalence of these diseases. Further, we are also understanding whether people feel they have adequate services to cure these diseases in their surroundings. The study has been designed to understand these patterns across various education groups and across different states and countries. Our study quantifies mental health awareness and the stigma related to alcohol addiction.

Overall patterns in data (not segregated on states).

So far we have got some very interesting results in different parts various countries. Take for example India, where people of Karnataka to be more accepting towards to the possibility of a family member contracting a mental ailment as compared to other states of India. Or from India itself, surprisingly, the doctorates in West Bengal would rather seek treatment at home than going to the doctor if a family member was addicted to alcohol. A similar result was also observed for alcohol addiction Oman. These results show the effect of the stigma related to alcohol addiction in various parts of the world. Across several countries most people do not believe (or admit in a survey) in the likelihood of a family member contracting alcohol addiction or a mental ailment but most people also believe that de-addiction services and mental health facilities are not adequate in their surroundings — showing a glaring hypocrisy. This inconsistency outlines that people do understand the prevalence of these diseases but fail to accept that someone in their own family can have them. If you fill this form and spread the word, through citizen science, we can have a better understanding of mental health awareness.
