BOOK REVIEW: The Unknown Victim

It took me around 3 to 4 hours to complete the entire book in one shift. I was gripped by the story and couldn’t help turning pages of the book. I loved the book cover which has these 3 people in it and the environment relates to the story completely. It’s beautifully written (except a few editing errors) and I found the pace of the book to the point.

Shlok (the protagonist of the story) was born in a village called Dhruvpur, into the family of a landlord and is cursed by a strange woman just after his birth. He came from a place where women were not treated as equally as men (one of the reasons why his sister commits suicide) and this exactly was taught to him as well. Along with that, the story plot is also focused on people like Shlok’s family who behave harshly with the ones that are lower class.

After his sister commits suicide, he is sent to Delhi to complete his studies and he falls in love with a girl called Pragati who is a confident Delhi girl, and the one who lived her life on her own terms. They fall in love and everything goes smoothly for a while and things start to change with his behavior.

He is influenced by people around him and starts drinking, smoking and he creates a complete mess out of his life (also, because of his possessive nature towards Pragati).

Strange things started happening to him not because of the curse because he was good at heart since his birth, but because he was driven by people all the time whether it was his family or his college mates as the story progresses. Since everyone believed that this behavior of him was because of the curse. They have to enquire about what it’s all about.

What happens after this is a complete story turner. (I won’t spoil that for you. So, please read the book for that). I loved how beautifully each and every point is written like the mentality about how women should be treated; how higher class people should behave with lower class and how love could be your destroyer & savior at the same.

RATING:

4.5/5
