Nevertheless I Persisted

I do not have delusions of grandeur: my story of persistence did not change any lives or worlds other than my own. Nor is my story specifically feminist: except that I am a woman and a feminist. That said, it’s important for women from all walks of life to acknowledge their own persistence. Once the capacity for resilience is acknowledged you can no longer say “I just can’t do insert seemingly insurmountable task here” and believe it.

I persisted with working in mental health, within the immigration detention system, for five years. I persisted not only with the role and the workaday…
