Why Space Exploration & Colonization is insanely important?

What’s the point of wasting money on space research while we have plenty of problems here on earth?

The first reason for building colonies on mars and in space is the long-term survival of human civilization. Let’s suppose, Earth is destroyed, where will we go then? So we need to have a base on any other habitable planet or moon.

Due to the increasing population, we’re running out of resources. While resources in space, both in materials and energy, are enormous. The Solar System alone has enough material and energy to support us anywhere, mostly from the Sun itself.

Importance of Space Colonization:

  1. First of all, it’s human nature to go beyond. To know the unknown and
    explore new wonders of the Universe.
  2. We should colonize other habitable planets due to the increasing population and lack of resources on Earth.
  3. To ensure the survival of the human civilization in the case of Planetary disaster.
  4. To save the environment of Earth by moving people and industry into space.
  5. Climate change is already at its peak, the way we’ve damaged the Earth is too much this time, we can hardly reverse this destruction.
  6. The Himalayan glaciers are melting and Arctic glaciers are also melting at an alarming rate which gives rise to sea level.
  7. Greenland’s glaciers are melting even in winter. “It’s a very high level of melting and it will probably change the face of Greenland because it will be a very strong driver for an acceleration of future melting, and therefore sea-level rise,” Scientist at NASA said.
  8. The ozone layer is depleting badly which is giving rise to venomous diseases.
  9. Historic fires in the region of Amazon were destructive. Even the fires of 2022 was worst than in 2019.
  10. Wildfires in Turkey in 2021, horrible Greece fire in 2021, at Australia in 2020, at California in 2020, after all this can you imagine the destruction we’ve done??
  11. So for the survival of humans, we’ve to colonize space. The availability of additional resources in space could enable the expansion of human society.
  12. In the medical field, plenty of treatments have been developed due to space colonization.

What if a huge asteroid hits the Earth and extinct us all? It has happened before,which is one of the reasons for the extinction of dinosaurs.

Through space colonization, we can mitigate the impacts of overpopulation on Earth. For example, depletion of resources. If the resources of space were opened to use and life-supporting habitats were built, Earth would no longer define the limitations of growth.

In 2005, NASA Administrator Michael Griffin identified space colonization as the ultimate goal. He said: “The goal isn’t just scientific exploration, it’s also about extending the range of human habitat out from Earth into the solar system as we go forward in time. In the long run, a single-planet species will not survive. If we humans want to survive for hundreds of thousands of millions of years, we must ultimately populate other planets.”

Stephen Hawking’s Predictions:

Theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking argued about space colonization as a means of saving humanity. Here are some of his most famous predictions.

  1. Stephen Hawking theorized that humans would turn the planet into a giant ball of fire by 2600 due to overcrowding and energy consumption which will make the Earth inhabitable.
  2. Therefore humans will need to go and live on another planet. He said that humans will need to colonize any other habitable planet within 100 years or they will be extinct.
  3. “With climate change, overdue asteroid strikes, epidemics, and population growth, our planet is increasingly precarious,” he said in a BBC documentary.

Resources in Space:

Resources in Space are enormous. Asteroid mining will also play a vital role in space colonization. Water and materials to make structures and shielding can be easily found in asteroids. Instead of resupplying on Earth, mining and fuel stations need to be established on asteroids to facilitate better space travel.

Colonies on the Moon, Mars, asteroids or the metal-rich planet Mercury could extract local materials. The (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) was a robotic spacecraft operated by NASA. It was targeted at the Cabeus crater which was chosen as having a high concentration of water for the Moon. It t was successful in confirming water in the southern lunar crater Cabeus.

Solar-power satellites would provide electricity without the air pollution and atmospheric heating caused by burning fossil fuels. The use of space resources would enable these satellites to be built at less than 10 percent of the cost of launching construction materials from Earth.

Astronauts who were suffering from back pain experimented in space. Science Experiments performed on astronauts in space improved our understanding of medical conditions on Earth. This research has produced findings that can help people suffering from cardiovascular disorders, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and balance problems.

The data that satellites provide us about how our planet is changing is invaluable, they make climate projections and develop innovative solutions to better adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Satellites help us to save ourselves by gathering data that can be used to predict natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods etc.

Understanding Universe:

The biggest benefit of space explorations is that the data collected by space probes, telescopes, and rovers are challenging us. In the last decades, we learned that the number of planets, stars, and galaxies in the universe is much higher than our expectations.

Curiosity:

Space exploration fuels our children’s curiosity and imaginations. Curiosity is a driving fuel which allow them to learn and grow. Role models like astronauts inspire students to dream, and to achieve their goals.

Jobs:

Due to space explorations, people are getting new opportunities of scientific and technical jobs.

That is why we should colonize space or what’s the point of being here on Earth when there are trillions of planets in the Universe?
