It was quite a semester. It made me reconsider my policy that everything goes in terms of topics for a writing class. I didn’t change it, being UC Berkeley, the home of free speech, but I have since found out that other writing teachers set clear boundaries for offensive or racist content, etc. I may do the same in a future class. Some students were quite upset to be forced to read this story. Of course I didn’t know what it was about until the day before class.
