Why Islam Is The Only True & Complete Way Of Life
Islam, is the final and complete revelation of God’s message to humanity, provides a comprehensive framework for life that integrates spiritual, social, economic, and political aspects. Rooted in the concept of Tawheed (the Oneness of God) which was taught by every prophet to their people (we Muslims consider every prophet of God to be a Muslim as they submitted themselves to God, making Adam the first human and Muslim), Islam is distinct in its logical proofs, moral clarity, and ability to address every facet of human existence. Narrated by Salman al-Farsi:
It was said to Salman: Your Prophet teaches you everything, even about excrement. He replied: Yes. He has forbidden us to face the qiblah at the time of easing or urinating, and cleansing with right hand, and cleansing with less than three stones, or cleansing with dung or bone. [Sunan Abu Dawud]
Proofs of Prophethood
A foundational aspect of Islam is the belief in Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the final messenger. The Qur’an (proof of the divinity of the Quran), revealed to him over 23 years, is regarded as the most profound miracle. Its linguistic and literary style remains unmatched and serves as a proof of its divine origin and being the speech of Allah. Despite the passing of over 1400 years, the Qur’an remains preserved in its original form, a unique feature among religious scriptures.
In addition to the Qur’an’s timeless nature, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made several fulfilled prophecies, including the conquest of Mecca and the Byzantine victory over the Persians. These predictions came true precisely as foretold, reinforcing his status as a prophet.
His character — honesty, humility, and compassion — was known even before his prophethood. Described as “Al-Amin” (the trustworthy), Muhammad’s life is evidence of his sincerity. He also performed various miracles, such as the splitting of the moon and the Isra and Mi’raj (his miraculous night journey to Jerusalem and ascension to the heavens), further solidifying his prophetic claim.
The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The example of me and the Prophets before me is like that of a man who has built a house completely and excellently, except for a missing brick in one corner. The people began to walk around the house and admire it, but they would say, ‘Why is not this brick in its place?’ I am that brick, and I am the last of the Prophets.” (Sahih Bukhari 3535)
Logical Proofs of God’s Existence
Islam’s concept of God is rooted in both faith and reason. The cosmological argument posits that everything that begins to exist must have a cause. Since the universe had a beginning, it logically requires a Creator — Allah. This aligns with the Qur’an’s teaching that Allah is the First Cause and Creator of all things.
“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.” (Quran 3:190)
The fine-tuning argument suggests that the universe is precisely calibrated for life, indicating intelligent design. The constants of nature, such as gravity and the speed of light, are so finely tuned that even minor deviations would render life impossible, the possibility of all this coming out of random chance is essentially 0, pointing to a designer and purposeful creator.
Additionally, the moral argument highlights the existence of objective moral values, which imply the existence of a moral lawgiver. Without Allah, moral objectivity collapses into subjective opinion, but Islam teaches that Allah has provided a clear moral code through revelation.
The Concept of Tawheed (Monotheism)
At the heart of Islam is Tawheed, the pure and uncompromising belief in the Oneness of God. Unlike other theological systems that incorporate complex doctrines such as the Trinity or polytheism, Tawheed presents a simple and direct understanding: Allah is One, without partners, equals, or offspring.
“Say, He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.” (Surah Al-Ikhlas, 112:1–4)
This logical simplicity eliminates theological contradictions and affirms that all worship, guidance, and power come solely from Allah. Islam’s concept of God is also consistent with the inherent human inclination to recognize and worship a single, supreme Creator who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present.
Completeness of the Islamic Law (Sharia)
Islam offers a complete system of law and governance, known as Sharia, designed to promote justice, equity, and social welfare. Sharia ensures the protection of five essential elements of human life: life, property, faith, intellect, and lineage. Unlike man-made laws, Sharia is divinely ordained and thus free from bias and corruption.
“And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims.” (Surah An-Nahl, Quran 16:89)
The Islamic legal system also incorporates mercy and flexibility, allowing for exceptions in cases of hardship and providing opportunities for repentance. The Islamic approach to law aims for justice while offering compassion, creating a balance that is difficult to achieve in purely secular legal frameworks.
Islamic law also promotes social welfare through zakat (almsgiving) and waqf (endowments), which redistribute wealth from the wealthy and provide for the needy, helping to reduce social inequality.
Economic System in Islam
Islam’s economic system is based on fairness, responsibility, and ethical principles. It prohibits riba (interest), which leads to exploitation, and financial inequality. By forbidding interest-based transactions, Islam encourages profit-sharing and risk-sharing mechanisms that ensure mutual benefit.
O believers! Do not consume interest, multiplying it many times over. And be mindful of Allah, so you may prosper. Quran 3:130
Additionally, Islam mandates the redistribution of wealth through zakat, an obligatory charity that ensures that wealth circulates in society, preventing the accumulation of wealth in the hands of a few. This creates an economic system that is just and equitable.
Islam also promotes fair trade, emphasising transparency and honesty in business transactions. It prohibits fraudulent practices, deceit, and monopolies, ensuring that the marketplace operates in a way that benefits everyone.
Social System and Moral Code
Islam teaches us that all people are equal before Allah, regardless of race, social status, or wealth. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) famously said, “The best among you is the one who is most righteous,” stressing that piety, not wealth or lineage, is the measure of a person’s worth.
“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.” (Quran 49:13)
Islam also outlines clear rights and responsibilities for individuals, including women’s rights, workers’ rights, and the rights of neighbors and family members. It promotes a sense of social responsibility while ensuring that each individual is treated with dignity and respect.
The emphasis on family values in Islam underscores the importance of strong familial bonds, respect for parents, and the nurturing of children in a moral and ethical environment.
Political System (Justice, Governance, and Peace)
Islam promotes a political system based on justice, where the ruler is accountable and must govern in a way that ensures justice for all, regardless of their social or economic standing. The Qur’an repeatedly stresses the importance of justice, with Allah commanding believers to “stand firmly for justice” (Qur’an 4:135).
“There is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab and neither for a non-Arab over an Arab, also there is no superiority of a white man over a black man, neither for a black man over a white man except by piety” — Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him)
Islamic governance is based on consultation (Shura), ensuring that leaders are chosen with the consent of the people and govern by consulting with their advisors and the community.
The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The best of your rulers are those whom you love and who love you, who invoke blessings upon you and you invoke blessings upon them. The worst of your rulers are those whom you hate and who hate you and whom you curse and who curse you.” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1855)
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.” (Surah An-Nisa, 4:58)
Islam’s Role in Personal and Spiritual Development
Islam offers a balanced approach to life, encouraging both spiritual growth and engagement with the material world. The practice of the five daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, and other acts of worship instill discipline, mindfulness, and a sense of purpose.
Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ created humankind and ˹fully˺ know what their souls whisper to them, and We are closer to them than ˹their˺ jugular vein. Quran 50:16
Islam encourages believers to maintain a direct relationship with Allah, without the need for intermediaries, making worship accessible, personal, and sincere.
Universality and Timelessness of Islam
Islam is the final revelation that corrects the distortions of previous scriptures. It is not limited to a specific tribe or nation but is meant for all of humanity, offering guidance to all.
“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah, Quran 5:3)
The principles of Islam are timeless, and while Sharia law provides clear guidance, it also has the flexibility to accommodate different contexts, cultures and eras, making it a dynamic system capable of addressing modern challenges.
Islam’s comprehensive and coherent worldview addresses the deepest needs of the human soul, as well as the social, economic, and political requirements of society. From its emphasis to worship and the Oneness of God to its complete system of law, governance, and morality, Islam provides a framework that is logical, just, and timeless. In its universality and wisdom, Islam stands as the only complete way of life illuminating the right path for all of humanity.
