Personal Narratives: Hi!

This will be a space in which I will catalog the things people tell me. I will do my very best to represent their words and expressions in the way I felt they were presented. I will veer off into commentary at my whim.

A bit about me; I am currently 25. I was born in Northern California, and have lived in many regions throughout the country including Bisbee, AZ, Berkeley, CA, Gaithersburg MD, rural southwestern Illinois, and St. Louis, MO. In 1998, my family bought an RV and set out on a 2 year exploration of America with a focus on the west. I remained ever curious about the regionality of certain aspects of our culture, and the universal themes which I found everywhere. I’ve also spent time working on farms in Italy and traveling around Taiwan.

From a young age, I’ve been fascinated by poverty. This fascination continues as I grow older, living in poverty myself. I hope to explore this dynamic more as this collection of words grows. I owe an incredible debt to Chris Arnade for opening my eyes to the accessibility of stories to tell. They’re waiting at the local McDonalds, Wal-Mart or Dollar General. Michael Tracey will always be a personal hero of mine. Also a big thanks to Bill Moran for his words of personal encouragement, a name which I have a feeling will become much more familiar to a much wider audience before the next decade is upon us.

Down with procrastination and depression, onward with personal narratives!
