The challenge of New Year’s Day

Same problems, different year.

Noun

January 1, square 1. This day offers so much promise, but its promise is false. Day 1 doesn’t demand anything from us. It’s your buddy from high school who never grew up, who wants you to have the same drink at the same bar in the same, old town.

About 46% of people maintain their resolutions past six months. By June wave goodbye to losing those 15 pounds or finishing that ever growing pile of books. So let’s look at today differently: It’s a countdown.

Today is day 365. I have 365 brand new days. And tomorrow is 364, and tomorrow’s tomorrow is 363.

Today I start the timer.

The beauty of a resolution is not that we must do something, but that we can do something. It is a gift.
