These guidelines were a critical step, as highlighted by Galluzi at the NASCIO Midyear Conference, to ensure that AI technologies are implemented methodically and responsibly across government services. “To ensure those sensitive data types aren’t getting out into the wild,” Galluzi remarked, emphasizing the importance of security in early AI applications.
Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) has been at the forefront of this initiative, utilizing GenAI to enhance the unemployment claims adjudication process. Galluzi noted that generative AI is at “the peak of its hype cycle,” with substantial excitement surrounding its potential to drive public sector efficiencies. In DETR, GenAI not only acts as an interactive guide for users navigating their unemployment options but also assists in data analysis, helping to streamline operations significantly.
