#1 — House Hunting Scorecard
If you’re new to this series, welcome! As part of my 12-week goal, I’m on a mission to earn $100 online — either through digital or physical products. If you’re interested in reading more of the origin story, check it out here 👇
Now onto week 1.
For week 1, I chose to create a house-hunting scorecard. A big part of my personal life recently has been shopping for a house — whether that’s for myself or people in my family. I knew there was something I could contribute here.
Why?
- House-hunting has a routine. So there are likely other people who have experienced the same pain points.
- This allows me to create something once that can sell many.
- This aligns with my mantra for this journey — saving time.
How the week went
Monday, Jan 9 — Reflection
Okay. I know what I’m going to work on and I have a bunch of experiences that JUST happened. Let’s reflect on what happened and what ultimately led to a decision.
At this time, a couple of thoughts stand out to me:
- When walking through a house, what do you look for?
- How do you ultimately decide to put an offer on the house?
- How do you eliminate a house?
I’m going to ask myself and some friends to answer these questions.
Tuesday, Jan 10— Ideation
What medium should I produce? Figma, Canva, Spreadsheet, Google Docs? Who’s the target audience? First-time home buyers? Individuals? Real estate agents? Where should I sell this? Etsy? Gumroad? Are there any comparable examples? What style should I use?
Wednesday, Jan 11 — Iteration
I feel good about my direction.
I decided to use Canva since I haven’t used it before (why not use this opportunity to learn!). I narrowed it down to 1 minimal style with 1 version for individuals and 1 version for business people.
Now, let’s fine-tune it.
Thursday, Jan 12 — Feedback
Let’s print it out and test out how this baby might work.
Coconuts. No ink. 🤪
Instead, I’ll send it to a few friends.
Friday, Jan 13 — Final touches
There are a few things I want to be sure that the customer can take away:
- Organization in a potentially overwhelming situation (I remember coming home one day with a stack of home flyers and an equally tall stack of thoughts)
- Space for their thoughts
- Knowing that I’m rooting for them!
Saturday, Jan 14 — Create a listing
Alright, alright, alright. For now, I decided to sell on Etsy. I first have to create a shop. Let’s call it ‘AM Selling Stuff.’
Then, I need to create thumbnails and write up a description. A surprisingly tricky part was figuring out the right thumbnail size. For future Etsy-listing-creators, I found that the recommended size is 2700px x 2025px.
Sunday, Jan 15 — Time to publish
Final proofread. Let’s go! Here’s the listing!
That’s a wrap for week 1. It’s out in the wild but unfortunately, with all the products in a crowded marketplace, not many have seen it yet. Perhaps a marketing week is in the cards — maybe week 4.
Thanks for reading! If you’re interested in following along my journey, please do! ❤️ I’ll be posting weekly updates and learnings every week.
