Essential Stages of Motivation for Entrepreneurs
Firstly I want to say, this is an ongoing open letter to myself — or anyone else that needs help starting anything. Hopefully I can revise and add to this for many years to come.
Starting out as an entrepreneur, you will come face to face with many obstacles.
Hopefully, this article will read as a list of things you are familiar with or will come to terms with eventually. This guide serves as a tiny reassurance manual for hunger and determination.
A simple reminder that ultimately, the bigger plan is not as far away as you think — Enjoy these small guidance tips.
Stage One
Defining Yourself.
Everyone struggles with this stage.
It’s a procedural hurdle that can often interfere with your ability to make effective decisions especially if you feel like your definitive purpose isn’t clear. It can be a stage of uncertainty for most people.
You don’t know if the model you see in your head will serve as an effective model within a real life scenario. But don’t get so hung up on defining yourself or your business that you fail to venture. Distill it down to one single brand statement for starters — A single, compelling blueprint.
This will alleviate the pressures that come with over thinking and trying to craft your entire brand personality in a single day.
Stage Two
Realize Failure is a Myth.
Most likely you are stuck because you have convinced yourself that you will fail.
But, there is more power in knowing that failure is simply a narrative that you have convinced yourself of. It is a human concept that is conceived when you believe you have reached a dark and inevitable end. And likewise, it is this fear that often holds you back from reaching your highest peak.
Instead, prepare for the lessons that will come from the attempt. It is from these experiences that you will see growth and opportunities. Once you adjust your mindset to prepare for the power of experience, you can start to achieve your goals.
Stage Three
Tap Into Experience.
Treat every experience, every interaction, like an opportunity. An opportunity to form new relationships, explore new ventures, to gain exposure. Use the knowledge gained from your experience as a way to push the envelope.
As an entrepreneur, it’s your job to be informed about your craft and to be educated about the business you want to run.
Often times, if you lack the experience needed to pursue a venture, it can be helpful to draw from existing stories and scenarios. Value information and find out who has been successful in your field. Take note, and implement similar tactics.
Stage Four
Pursue More Ambitious Goals.
It’s no secret that successful entrepreneurs set high goals. Once one goal is completed, there is always another one to set. Ambitious goals motivate you to reach the sweet peak where challenge finally becomes rewarding.
Constantly strive for exuberant long-term goals. While short-term goals will keep you on a steady path, long-term goals will keep you striving for more.
