WHY TO-DO LISTS ARE KEEPING YOU FROM LIVING OUT YOUR PASSION
“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
– Francis Of Assisi
Have you ever asked yourself what exactly is a to-do list?
Let’s think about this together…
When you make a to-do list you write down the first items that come to mind.
Most of the time the order of importance isn’t acknowledge until the end of the list or if at all.
I would bet that 80% of that list is very unimportant to your day’s bottom line.
Now this begs the question…
How do you identify the bottom line for the day?
WHAT IS A BOTTOM LINE ITEM?
Each day should have the one thing that will impact 3–5 other things.
That one thing is what you SHOULD BE DOING UNTIL DONE.
All other items on your list have very little importance or have a low overall impact until that one thing is completed.
Most successful people all have TWO important things in common:
1. They clearly define their PURPOSE and if items to do not align they DON’T MATTER!
2. They know the ESSENTIAL things to do daily and let everything else fall behind by saying NO!
HOW TO FIND THE BOTTOM LINE
IT ABOUT GOING SMALL… THEN GOING EVEN SMALLER
It is important to understand that most of everything you want to get done or accomplish comes from the few things you SHOULD be doing.
Most to-do lists consist of items that make you FEEL like you are getting things done.
Cut the list down in half.
Then cut that list down in half.
Then cut that list in half until you get to one bottom line item.
To identify if this is truly your bottom line item ask yourself this:
“If I do this one thing… what 3–5 items will fall down like dominos because I got this one thing done?”
Trust me when I tell you that once your bottom line item is completed you will KNOW EXACTLY what needs to be done next.
The hardest part of this is the capability to say NO to the unnecessary.
Achievers know how to say no to unnecessary tasks, people, and work that distracts them from their passion and purpose.

So before you make your next to-do list really think about your bottom line and cut the list until you can clearly identify what you SHOULD BE DOING.
