Silly Spoken Word
What Can We Learn from the Anteater Diet?
It’s perfectly alright to like what you like
--
Anteaters eat far more than just ants, dude,
don’t write them off as boring with food.
They also eat termites, and some munch on beetles and…
alright, I’ll admit, they’ve a limited menu.
But anteaters like what they like, alright?
And they’ve liked what they like for long enough time
that they’ve grown mega-tongues that are hooked and beslimed
to slurp ants from their homes in flipping great pints.
They just want their ants, they’ve no interest in plants,
not of meat-eating stance, won’t give dairy a chance.
They don’t like to prance with food sycophants
who won’t take a chance on a gobful of ants.
And they’ve no confidence in these gourmet restaurants,
they just gawp askance at cuisine fancypants,
recoil disenchants from roasted eggplants
and throw cynical bants at posh cheese from France.
But when you have a long hard think about it, matey,
ants and termites must be proper tasty
’cause it’s only pure steely determination
that satisfies this critter’s limited gustation.
Did you know our old pal the giant anteater
roams two miles a day just to get feeded?
He wrecks 200 nests like the long-nosed grim reaper,
knocks claws on anthills like a sick trick-or-treater.
He gulps grit with his dinner to grind ants into dust
’cause he hasn’t got teeth in that protracted mush.
And he goes it alone, no mates does he trust
while he razes ant cities, enraged with bloodlust.
So if you know what you like and you like what you know,
even if it’s far beyond the world’s status quo,
be like the anteater, embrace your inner weirdo,
and fiercely pursue that which sets you aglow.
I’ve been in a months-long creative slump so I’m having a crack at a creative challenge called Alphabet Superset in hopes of getting over it. The plan is to write a silly little animal-themed poem for every silly little letter of the alphabet. Thanks for reading :)
