What will be the most influential Web technology over the next five years? Try to imagine the future of the Web — or beyond the Web.

Nowadays, our technology is always evolving and I’ll talk about some points I that consider relevant and promising in the world’s web.

1. Responsive/Adaptive design will become the standard
Responsive design creates web sites/apps that will change completely and respond to fit any screen size. Adaptive design creates web sites/apps with multiple visuals designed for different devices. A single application might have three separate presentation layers: One for a PC, one for a tablet, and another for a smartphone.

2. Native apps will decline
In the coming years, I believe we’ll see a shake-up in the mobile platform landscape. New platforms will emerge due to its efficiency, while popular options will decline. As the web is being innovating over-time, this will lead to a decline in native mobile apps. Particularly in the business world, developers will increasingly avoid any risks and choose to embrace the flexibility of mobile web apps to have a more trustable and worth work process.

3. Web sites/apps will offer the ‘future’ experience
We’re seeing a shift toward personalised user experiences, and I believe it will only increase. This happens in a couple of ways, in some cases the web app/site remembers the user’s preferences, settings and it delivers options tailored to that user. In some other ways, the users can customise the design and layout according to their preferences and save them for future visits.

4. Application portability will become fundamental
In the past, developers built applications for single platforms and databases. Nowadays, that practice is rapidly becoming outdated, however it still exists. Even today, businesses are still developing applications that doesn’t go beyond that model. That being said, businesses are slowly recognising the need for applications that port to any database or platform without any problems. A cloud-based hosting becomes so much easier, and it allows the use of multiple databases, portable applications will become extremely important in the business world.

5. Data will expand more and more
As more and more information is connected to the internet, our web applications will collect data from areas we’d never think of. In our future they will pull data from your office, fleet of delivery trucks, and much more.
