About 10 years ago I was going my paces as a TICU nurse (specialized trauma/surgical ICU)- we has a code 88; our term for worst trauma. It cued move and localize troops to ER for arrival, then it was my job to assist stabilization then transport to TICU or OR, depending. A little lady of about 60 who was feeling bad, had a wreck. It mangled her abdomen. The reason she felt bad enough to pass out and mangle her car? She had a temp of 103 and severe abdominal pain- peritonitis with a large enough abscess to be within 1 cm of breaking through to her skin of her 280lbs, 5ft4 frame. Pannulectomy coming right up.
