Would You Let a Bot Into Your Bank Account?

For me savings apps/bots like Digit and Qapital are the financial equivalent of Neko Atsume — benign games of patience, which just enough personality to keep you engaged.

After hearing some success stories from friends, I signed up for Digit AND Qapital to see which product I like better and to save for an upcoming trip to Japan.

And as silly as it sounds, I really get a kick out of Digit’s texts alerting me to transactions and progress towards my savings goals. Yes, I’m a nearly 30-year-old woman who needs the digital equivalent of a gold star to manage my finances.

I also enjoy the minimalist delivery system the Digit offers; no scary pie charts, no interfaces to navigate, just gentle nudges that don’t ask you to log into anything.

But… between Digit and Qapital I’ve saved $1K+ in the past three months. Which is pretty awesome.

I’ll probably keep Qapital in the long run (it has some more fun features and lets you save towards specific goals), but I will shed a 2¢ tear when I turn my back on the Digit bot.
