Uttar Pradesh makes online payment a pre- requisite for DL Applicants
NOIDA: Mr. A. K. Pandey, ARTO (Admn.) Gautam Budh Nagar has announced the mandatory online fee payment for applicants seeking Permanent Driving Licence on the Sarathi website from Monday. This modification is currently applicable to the state of Uttar Pradesh and is in a pilot phase.
Now it is mandatory to make online fee payment for those applying for Learner’s Licence as well as Permanent Licence. The officials explained that disproportionate ratio of applicants and staff is the reason behind the change.
“From Monday, those applicants who require a permanent licence will have to bring a receipt of the online fee payment,” said SK Singh, ARTO II.
The online payment mode has already started in Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, and Jhansi. Since the department is facing staff crunch, it was decided to start the online mode of payment on a testing phase from Friday.
However, some technical glitches were encountered on Friday. The options provided for making online payment through Sarathi are very limited. The site accepts payments only via net banking of State Bank of India and other banks which are mostly regional. It does not accept Credit or Debit cards or other modes of online payment. This limitation once again delays the application process and adds to the agony of the applicants.
A fee of ₹1,000 is levied for getting a permanent licence for both 4- wheeler and 2- wheeler.
The success of this re-orientation can be evaluated only after a few working days.
