In computers when calculating multiplication and division, it calculate as series of addition and subtraction.

When divisor multiply by quotient we get the dividend.( if there is no remainder)

What happen if we divided by 0

There is no end to the subtraction. So lets consider answer is ∞ infinity. If so according to When divisor multiply by quotient we get the dividend ( if there is no remainder) should also must be true in this case. If this expressions are true, theoretically 20 = 15. This is mathematically wrong.

Lets look at what happen when divisor getting close to the 0.

When divisor getting closer to Zero we can see quotient getting bigger. Lets draw a graph.

We can see that value of Y axiom never get close to zero and Y axiom value from both + and- keep increasing.

So, When divide by 0

  • There is no end to subtraction
  • When divisor multiply by quotient we don’t get the dividend ( if there is no remainder)
  • It can’t consider as infinity. (because 15 =20 can’t be true)

So divide by 0 does not comply with normal mathematical concept. So we consider it as Undefined.
