How people are making millions using DALL-E, it’s much simpler than you think.

AI Generated Stylised Avatars built by using images of myself as a prompt

These images were generated within minutes by feeding photos of myself to a publicly-accessible Neural Network. This creates a never before seen product & business opportunities that have become possible seemingly over-night.

The first such opportunity has materialised itself in the form of “Magic Avatars”, the user provides images of their face and after a couple of minutes the product spews out hundreds of stylised “Magic Avatars” for that user (that’s how I got these images).

Within the last month several products such as these have popped up:

The underlying technology for all of these is the same, and it’s not their own creation. They either use OpenAI’s “DALL-E” or Stability AI’s “Stable Diffusion”. DALL-E is accessible through a very well documented API, and Stable Diffusion is open source but also for the less technical-savvy out there it has an accessible API.

Meaning what these platforms are doing is just building an interface on top of these Neural networks, plugging in a payment processor and distributing this technology in ‘easy to consume’ format.

And they are making millions in doing so.

The investment on their side? The time necessary to build out the aforementioned interface and distribute their platform. We are talking a couple of months of development time at best, and using their own existing marketing channels to distribute these products.

Such an example is indie hacker Pieter Levels, the man behind https://avatarai.me/, Pieter document his whole journey developing this project using DALL-E and once finished distributed it to his 207K Twitter Followers — he made $10,000 in the first day.

However the biggest winner as of now is Lensa, if you’ve seen a “Magical Avatar” on your social media feed these days, it’s from them. Lensa has been out for more that 4 years on the app store as a Photo Editor App, however they implemented the “Magic Avatar” feature last month.

I used Lensa to create these avatars

In doing so they skyrocketed to the #1 position on the App Store Charts in the very competitive “Photo & Video” category. They recorded 1.6M app downloads in just November, and in total have over 20M downloads, I think it’s a conservative estimate that anywhere from 1M to 2M users have paid for their “Magic Avatar” service in the past month.

For $4 average spend, they’ve made anywhere from $4M to $8M within a month.

OpenAI released a new model to the public 7 days ago called “ChatGPT” which opens up even more possibilities for platforms such as these — check it out: https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt/

Minecraft Pickaxes?

We are in the Gold Rush of AI, the real winners as always will be the ones selling the pickaxes (in this case the ones building the Neural Networks), but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a fortune to be made within the next year using those pickaxes if you are fast enough.

A couple of ideas for platforms such as these:

  • Pet Name Generator
  • Logo Generator
  • Text Placeholder Generator (Replace Lorem Ipsum)
  • UI Assets Generator

…and a ton more.

Good luck and happy mining! 🙏
