I am aware that there are the Americans from all walks of life who have chosen to vote for Trump. Each for their own reasons, with their own motives and expectations. Exactly as you have so well summed it up. Indeed, to some he appeared to be just the lesser of the two evils.
It is also true that we never see the whole picture . Sometimes, what looks like a misfortune today, tomorrow might prove to have been a stroke of luck.
Say you missed your flight because your car wouldn’t start. Then you find out that the plane you have just missed, has exploded in the air after the take off…
That is the most relatively optimistic scenario I can only theoretically come up with, regarding this whole election fiasco. That there is some very well disguised and deeply hidden miracle that might happen . Of the serendipity kind, that is.
See, I am trying. But do not expect me to bet on it.
Another optimistic thought would be that he would self destruct . As in quickly lose the support of all those who have helped put him to power, when they find out he is not doing anything of the things they had expected him to do for them.
When something looks like a duck, walks like a duck, talks like a duck , it’s got to be a duck. “Donald Trump” kind of duck in this case. Egoistic, ruthless, self serving narcissist.
Whichever way I try to look at it, I do not see him as president material.
You must have heard of that Chinese curse : “May you live in interesting times” .
It looks like we have indeed been cursed by some angry China man…
It still amazed me who all the people are that believe in him. Many are among my own friends! Something I could never have thought possible , not in my wildest dreams. Just goes to show you how blind we can all be and how little we actually know one another.
As I am writing all this , a line from a Bob Dylan’s song keeps turning in my head:
“(only) Time will tell who has failed and who’s been left behind ( when you go your way and I go mine…)”
