WHY READ BOOKS?

There are numberless reasons to read a book . Let me put it this way: A cook need not be a reader. I agree, you can learn to cook without ever reading a single book. Hey, for the greater part of the history of the mankind, the cooks — excellent ones, were often not even literate!

I have to confess: learning is the last in the list of the reasons why I love to read. But without books and without a fierce reading habit, I would feel desperately poor and deprived. Books are a means to travel in a way not even the best NASA technology can ever do it for you. Books are a doorway to any place , any world and any dimension the wildest imagination can only conjure.

Books enable me to listen to the philosophers of the ancient times, to walk with the giants and play with the magical creatures of the worlds never seen by a human eye. I can run with the wolfs, fly with the eagles. I can travel in time.

Books as a tool for learning a skill , yes… They may, or may not work for you. But that is just the most pedestrian way to use a book.

A reader with imagination and spirit knows…

Book is that magic flying carpet that will take me to the unknown far away places beyond this world, beyond the Milky Way . I will fly so fast and be back not a minute late for that wonderful meal you have cooked in the meantime.
