Ad Blocking and the Future of the Web

While I’m sure this spells trouble for a lot of websites, I think this is just completely unfounded:

`Taking money and attention away from the web means that the pace of web innovation will slow to a crawl.`

What is that statement based on? To me, it seems media will be hit the worst, because it relies on advertising the most. But that’s not the whole of web. I’m not saying it’s a good thing either, but let’s not predict the doom of web yet.
