In this article, we will explain how to implement Social Login in a backend Spring Boot and a frontend React application. Additionally, we will provide a detailed analysis of the Social Login flow, highlighting the requests and redirections that occur during the process.

Social login is a form of single sign-on using existing information from a social networking service such as Facebook, X (old Twitter) or Google, to login to a third party website instead of creating a new login account specifically for that website. It is designed to simplify logins for end users as well as provide more reliable demographic information to web developers. [Wikipedia]

Reference Project

We will be using the GitHub repository called ivangfr/springboot-react-social-login.

This repository contains a movie-app application that consists of two applications: movie-api (backend) and movie-ui (frontend). Our chosen Social Login provider will be GitHub, but the process should be similar for other providers.
