Proposal on How to Deal With ISIS?
Everyone has heard about the atrocities of ISIS - executed children, women, and men. They kill more Muslims, than non-Muslims. No matter your religious inclinations, ISIS has proven to be a murderous and evil organization. In their own words, they look to kill or enslave all the non-believers. While this rhetoric sounds ancient, it has attracted no few, but 40k to 200k supporters. It has the ability to grow that number. In this brief article, I will not delve into the causes of ISIS, but will rather propose ways for the rest of the world to deal with ISIS, before it reaches such proportions that larger sacrifice is needed.
- Unite. The rest of the world needs to unite against ISIS. A clear goal needs to be set for the United Coalition. The Coalition can be governed by UN or some other platform with representatives from all participants. The United Coalition must include all major world powers. The diplomatic outreach should begin immediately. Our common goal is to stop terrorism and stop ISIS. The Coalition resolution should predetermine what will happen to the territories once ISIS is defeated.
- Today, we have very unorganized efforts by the US-led western coalition, Saudi-led Muslim coalition and Syria/Russia-led coalition. Without a united front, these efforts will be more costly. Also, since all the parties are pursuing their self-interests, there is a higher probability that these efforts may fail.
2. Mobilize: With United Coalition established, united statements must be translated into united action. Nations need to unilaterally mobilize their armies and people. Financial, military, and information resources need to be combined. The United Coalition under one goal can combine a huge amount of resources that ISIS will not be able to withstand.
- Today, aside from military resources, few other resources are used to fight ISIS. People are not adequately aware of the dangers presented by ISIS. Mobilizing physical and intellectual resources of the rest of the world will marginalize ISIS.
3. Communicate. It is important to correctly communicate the purpose of the United Coalition. The United Coalition will be to defeat the murderous ISIS. It is not against Islam. The messengers could be Muslim nations and Muslims around the world. They could be called upon to play a larger role in explaining their religion to the rest of the world. Communication needs to be more focused on garnering support from local citizens, as well as ISIS sympathizers.
- Today, media has not made ISIS the headline story. Muslims around the world have not spoken up against ISIS. ISIS has been winning the propaganda war reaching wide numbers through social media. A powerful media campaign needs undertaking to defeat ISIS not only physically, but mentally.
Undertaking these steps can bring quick victory and end needless suffering. The failure to do so can cause additional suffering and more sacrifice down the line. Lobby your governments to focus on defeating ISIS. Our fight to be free is much stronger than their fight to enslave us.
